Murakami Animation Studio To Open in LA, Summer 2009 PDF Print E-mail

Takashi Murakami, that crazy successful artist who takes the otaku stuff of bittorrents and rapidshares and sells them on Sotheby's for millions, is expanding the Kaikai Kiki empire.  According to the Los Angeles Times, he's going to have a film studio in Hollywood, because that's the place you want to be if you're going to be making a feature-length film about two creatures jetting around in a spaceship growing watermelons with poop.

I know guys are pretty divided over him.  Me, I think it's pretty brilliant what he does, taking the stuff from the bottom and moving it up the art food chain with a sort of stately ridiculousness.
